Chicago Cubs 2009 Record: 83-78 (2nd, NL Central) Key Additions: Marlon Byrd (OF), Carlos Silva (SP), Xavier Nady (OF), Chad Tracy (3B/1B) Key Losses: Milton Bradley (OF), Rich Harden (SP), Kevin Gregg (RP), Aaron Heilman (RP), Reed Johnson (OF), Aaron Miles (INF), Andres Blanco (INF), Neal Cotts (RP), Chad Fox (RP) BIBGLBOOPSARG(tm) SS Ryan Theriot RF Kosuke Fukudome 1B Derrek Lee 3B Aramis Ramirez CF Marlon Byrd LF Alfonso Soriano 2B Mike Fontenot C Geovany Soto P Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster, Randy Wells, Carlos Silva, Tom Gorzelanny Closer: Carlos Marmol Predicted Finish: Second place in the NL Central. I expect some bounce back from Soriano and Soto, and when Ted Lilly comes back, the rotation is pretty darn good. They don't have anything to touch the Cardinals top four players, but they have more depth. The keys are obviously to avoid injury and have players return to 2008 form. I think they will at least get some of that to happen. Also, Starlin Castro is a real possibility to be a mid-season call-up, and he could be the spark to have this team make a run at the postseason. Posted in: 2010 Preview, Chicago Cubs What an intense first couple of games against the Cardinals. I have to tell say, I think the Cardinals are going to do pretty well this year, and it will be great seeing this rivalry at its peak when both teams are relevant. When is the last time that happened? Probably 2004, and even then, the Cardinals ran away and hid with the division pretty early. Here are some thoughts on the game.

Here I will share my half-baked Cubs thoughts with the generally apathetic and non-existent readership. I was intending on getting this up and running by the beginning of the season, but I was honestly just too lazy to do so. Anyways, I am hoping some more of you (Dan, I'm looking at you) will join me to post some entertaining observations, some interesting insights, and a whole lot of nonsensical ranting. With any luck, by the end of October, we will have this as a log of our thoughts and feelings during the Cubs championship season. Then again, bloggers have been saying that for 100 years...er... something like that. Posted in: Cubs, Eternal Optimism | ||
